The teams were pretty evenly matched and the board positions see-sawed during the evening. Early results were wins for Les (in 11 moves against the French Defence!) and Aidan , and a loss for Neville. Gideon had an interesting Scotch Gambit and in a tricky position accepted a half. Tom also halved in a gummed up position. Gary has an unfortunate habit of getting himself into time-trouble and did it again tonight. Anthony won with a checkmate, and with Andrew winning a long endgame with knight and 2 pawns v knight, giving us five points. The final result depended on the top two boards and with Julian struggling it all depended on Kevin’s game which went back and forth. In the time scramble at the end, his position went from worse to winning thus securing the points. A welcome return to the team by Kevin!n the meantime I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Season’s Greetings and best wishes for a Happy New Year,
boards 3, 4 and 5
