Back to winning in the London League

Wednesday 31 January

Ilford got back to winning ways with a 6-3 win against Mushrooms 2 with one game adjourned. Chris Fegan didn’t manage to get to the venue so we defaulted a board but from then on no-one lost and Ilford steadily accumulated the points to win. Taking Ilford over the line was Julian who with queen against two bishops and a rook kept play very active to find a win.

Ilford now have 4.5 points from 6 matches which should be enough for safety but the rest of the season has matches against clubs from the top half of the table so points will be much harder to come by.

Tivillier v Kent – adjournment position, black (Kent) has sealed.

A tricky position, the black king is going to be exposed but white has to guard against back rank mating threats.

Jef Page surprised his opponent with a rather unusual bishop and knight checkmate.
